US Chart Roundup: Pet Shop Boys' 'Electric' Is Their Highest-Charting Album Since 'Very'

With everything on the Billboard Hot 100 remaining pretty much hooker meat, let's instead turn to the Billboard 200 album chart, where Pet Shop Boys' Electric goes in at #26. Like in the UK this past weekend, the duo have now landed their highest-charting album since Very. Here in the States, 1993 pop masterpiece Very peaked at #20, and eventually snagged a Gold certification.

Electric is now the Pet Shop Boys' seventh of their 12 studio albums to make the Top 40 in the US, and their first to do so since Yes clocked in at #32 in 2009. (It's follow-up, Elysium, made it to #44 last fall.)

US Chart Roundup: Capital Cities, Lorde & Justin Timberlake Are Royals

Two songs I honestly never anticipated becoming major US hits have cracked the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week: Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love," which is up to #17, and Capital Cities' "Safe And Sound," now at #20. I like to think that my interview with Capital Cities back in May is what helped propel their single to such great heights. You know — Robbie Daw, hitmaker.

Just outside of the Top 40, Justin Timberlake's controversial, disco-fied new single, "Take Back The Night" — off the upcoming The 20/20 Experience - 2 Of 2 (out September 30) — debuts at #47 after being made available as a download with pre-orders of the new album.



Moving along, Britney Spears' trashy Smurfs 2 track "Ooh La La" is $omehow up to #54, while the Cedric Gervais remix of Lana Del Rey's "Summertime Sadness" debuts at #72.



On a final note, 16-year-old New Zealand native Lorde — somewhat of a Lana Del Rey for the tween set — sees her debut single "Royals" climb from #90 to #74 in its second week on the chart.

US Chart Roundup: Miley Cyrus & Her Ass Have A 7th Top 10 Hit With "We Can't Stop"

With Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" clogging up the top of every chart in the world yet again (it's not that sexy, everyone), it's best that we instead turn our eyes to Miley Cyrus' twerking, gyrating ass. It's hard to believe that five-and-a-half years have gone by since the onetime squeaky clean Disney chirpstress initially charmed her way into the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 with "See You Again." Her last foray into the upper tier of the chart was three years ago, when "Can't Be Tamed" was a minor blip on the radar at #8. But here we are, seeing Miley again, as "We Can't Stop" grinds its way to #5 this week.

I can't say that I'm not still a little burned to see Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" continuing its descent, after peaking #2 a few weeks back. (Sigh. The song is now down to #7.) But sometimes life comes along an sticks your tits in a deep frier. What can you do?

This brings us to the other two songs on the Hot 100 worth championing this week: Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love," now up to #24, and Capital Cities' "Safe And Sound," which, at #43, is close to finally cracking the Top 40.

All in all, as we reach the halfway point in 2013, it's been a pretty solid year for pop so far, no?

Hmmm. Mariah Carey and Miguel's "#Beautiful" seems to be stuck in a holding pattern at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it's eerily reminiscent of MC's lead Emancipation Of Mimi single "It's Like That" a million years ago (eight, actually). That one, if you recall, got sidelined at #16. But here's the good news! The song is a Top 10 hit...in Croatia. And South Korea.

Anyway, Avril Lavigne, another frequently hit-strapped ho, is up to #20 with "Here's To Never Growing Up." Good for her, I say. The business has been unkind to poor Avril, what with radio not playing her material from the past few years and circumstances allowing for her to meet and become engaged to the singer from Nickelflop.

Another broad who can use a hit: Miley Cyrus. Her "comeback" single "We Can't Stop" is a tad grating — and this week it plunges from #11 to #27 — but at least there's this naughty music video for it, which prominently features Miley's tongue, ass and p***y bouncing around feverishly:



We'll end with Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love," which has risen to #30. In Croatia, however, it doesn't seem to have charted. So Mariah's got that.

US Chart Roundup: Robin Thicke Does The Impossible, Scores A #1 Single

Each time Robin Thicke puts out a new album, I can't help but think, oh, man — nice guy, hot piece of ass, but it's never gonna happen. Case in point: His only Top 40 hit was 2007's "Lost Without U" (which peaked at #14), and his last album didn't even dent the Top 20. I've really just felt Robin's songs were just never really up to scratch.

But in 2013, as Baauer, Macklemore and Daft Punk have shown, anything goes...including Robin Thicke having a worldwide #1 smash hit with "Blurred Lines"! Is it the sample of the Michael Jackson shriek that did it? (Is that MJ or someone recreating the "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" wooooo?) The newly-rediscovered Midas touch of Pharrell Williams? The funky bassline? The sexy and silly video? My guess would be all of the above.



Everyone wants to have a good time in 2013, and this video delivers on all fronts. (Remember, YouTube streams now factor into chart positions, and this clip has over 45 million views.) Et voila — Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" has hopped up from #6 to #1.

Ironically, this comes at a cost for Justin Timberlake, who many had noted jacked Thicke's style for his 20/20 Experience era; "Mirrors" drops from its peak position of #2 to #4.

US Chart Roundup: Miguel Might Need That "#Beautiful" Money For Legal Fees

Jesus, ascending the Billboard Hot 100 can be a slow-moving process, no? Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors," which was released in February (and stuck at #3 for the past month) finally ekes its way to #2, now that Pink's "Just Give Me A Reason" is taking a tumble. Just behind, at #3, is Daft Punk's "Get Lucky," a song that seems inevitably destined to reach the top, if not become one of those annoying "Song Of The Summer" things.

Anyway, Mariah Carey announced yesterday that her new album (no title yet, the teasing minx) will be out on July 23. Lead single "#Beautiful" is up to #17, and that's a good thing — because her duet partner Miguel is gonna need some cash if that broad he decapitated at the Billboard Music Awards last month does indeed sue him.

Elsewhere, keeping with the "slow crawl up the chart" theme, Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding's "I Need Your Love" moves up to #42. Quite the opposite, however, is Lana Del Rey's"Young And Beautiful," as it rapidly plunges from #33 to #50.

Daft Punk's Random Access Memories sealed the French duo's comeback this week, not to mention their official US breakthrough, by debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200. The album sold 339,000 copies in its first week, enough to nab the second-biggest opening of the year so far, after Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience (968,000).

Another plus for the pair: single "Get Lucky" jumps from #10 to #4 on the Hot 100. Who knows — maybe America will right the wrongs of having "Around The World" and "One More Time" each stall at #61 and send "Get Lucky" to the top?

US Chart Roundup: Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" Becomes Their First Top 10 Hit

Outside of the the sample on Kanye West's "Stronger," this marks the first week where Daft Punk are in the Top 10. "Get Lucky," a song that's already topped several countries' charts, has jumped up to #10 on the Billboard Hot 100. It's a far sexier position than #61, which is where both "Around The World" and "One More Time" (the duo's only other Hot 100 entries to date) peaked.

Yes, it's a week for pop miracles, as even Mariah Carey manages to move into the Top 20 — albeit at #20 — with her Miguel pair-up "#Beautiful." Whistle-shriek that shit to the bank, Mimi.



Another one I wouldn't have predicted: now that The Great Gatsby is a box office hit, Lana Del Rey's "Young And Beautiful" flies up from #59 to #22. Like Daft Punk, Lana is now experiencing her first Top 40 hit, stateside.

Selena Gomez lands her first Top 10 hit on the Hot 100 with "Come & Get It," which climbs eight positions to #6 this week. That's a legitimate scandal in my book, since "Come & Get It" is vastly inferior to Gomez's superb 2010 single "Naturally," which peaked at #29 but really should have at least made it into the Top 10. I feel like Miley must have spiked the chart that month. The bitch.

Elsewhere, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" jumps back up to #15, and Mariah Carey and Miguel's "#Beautiful" debuts at #24, giving Mimi her first Top 40 single in four years — the last being "Obsessed," which reached #7 in summer 2009. This comes on the heels of "Triumflop (Get 'Em)" and "Almost Home," both of which flopped harder than a pair of tits at a Pride parade and failed to chart.

Below that, Emeli Sande's "Next To Me" is up to #26 while Avril Lavigne's "Here's To Never Growing Up" catapult's up 30 positions to #30. Meanwhile, "Young And Beautiful" from The Great Gatsby is shaping up to be Lana Del Rey's first legitimate hit in the US. The Rick Nowels-produced track is up to #59, but should find its way into the Top 40 on next week's chart, as the song has been  Top 10 on iTunes since the movie opened last weekend.

Somehow, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have become the first duo in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to chart at #1 with their first two singles. You'd think this feat would have happened before with someone far classier, but I'm still glad that My (Next) White Trash Husband Macklemore is able to pop a box of Frangia and celebrate.

And so the pair's "Can't Hold Us" knocks Pink and Nate Ruess' "Just Give Me A Reason" off the top of the chart after the latter's three-week reign. Meanwhile, one of the year's best singles so far, Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors," slides up to #3, while Icona Pop and Charli XCX's "I Love It," Chart Rigger's top pick on our Best Singles list last year, climbs to #7.

US Chart Roundup: Icona Pop Crack The Top 10, Daft Punk Climb With "Get Lucky"

Some of the good stuff on the Billboard Hot 100 this week consists of Pink and Nate Ruess' "Just Give Me A Reason" maintaining its stance at #1 for a third week (I had to think about it, but, yes — this is good), while Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" moves up to a new peak of #5. Swedish duo Icona Pop and British singer Charli XCX's "I Love It," the top song on Chart Rigger's 10 Best Pop Singles Of 2012 list, finally makes the Top 10 by moving up to #9.

Elsewhere, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" climbs to #14 after debuting at #19 last week. Good for those fuckers. The fact that they're actually having a hit in America is kind of blowing my mind. Who'd have thought they'd recover so spectacularly after 2005's abysmal Human After All?

Another US breakthrough: Emeli Sande's "Next To Me" cracks the Top 40 by sliding up to #36. (And let's all take a moment to remember that we first saw this music video back in January 2012.)

That brings us to PSY and the yo-yo-ing "Gentleman." Without enough people with bad enough taste to actual download the song, it plummets from #5 to #26 now that the initial surge in YouTube plays has tapered off.



On a finale note, Lana Del Rey's Great Gatsby soundtrack dirge "Young & Beautiful" debuts at #82. I tend to like her trash at first, and then go off it real quick — something that might be chalked up to the fact that she basically keeps making the same song over and over.

US Chart Roundup: PSY Is A Hag

Somehow, some way, PSY's "Gentleman" video has racked up over 240,000 views on YouTube over the past two weeks, thus enabling the robotic trash jam to jump up to #5 in its second week on the Billboard Hot 100. And to give an idea as to how much that many YouTube plays outweigh actual digital sales, consider the fact that "Gentleman" is current floundering at #60 on iTunes.

But screw that garbage — Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" has debuted at #19. Granted, it's not nearly the heights the song reached in the UK. But the feat still manages to get the French duo into the Top 40 in the US for the very first time. (Daft Punk's previous high was #61, a position both "Around The World" and "One More Time" reached.)

Pharrell Williams should be kissing the double asses of Daft Punk, too, since "Get Lucky" is the first hit he's had since his feature on Ludacris' "Money Maker" saw him go to #1 in 2006.

US Chart Roundup: Pink Lands Her Fourth #1 Single With "Just Give Me A Reason"

I'm glad that Bruno Mars only had one week at #1 with "When I Was Your Man," which, quite frankly, is a one of the more sap-laden ballads in recent memory. And I'm also glad it was Pink who knocked him off the top of the Hot 100.

"Just Give Me A Reason" now marks Pink's fourth trip to the top of the chart, following "Lady Marmalade" (2001), "So What" (2008) and "Raise Your Glass" (2010). Maybe I should actually listen to her latest album, The Truth About Love, again, now that it's produced three Top 10 hits? I'll admit, I played it once, in the fall, and it sounded like snooze central.

Anyway, Ryan Tedder had better watch his back, lest go-to songwriter Nate Ruess, Pink's "Just Give Me A Reason" duet partner, start eating his lunch. The song now gives the fun. frontman his second trip to the top, after last year's over-saturation of "We Are Young."

Elsewhere, Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" finally cracks the Top 10 by jumping up to #7, the same week that The 20/20 Experience's three-week reign on the Top 200 album chart ends. (Paramore's self-titled album bumps it down to #3.)

US Chart Roundup: Little Mix Fly With "Wings"

Bruno Mars' second Unorthodox Jukebox single, "When I Was Your Man," is now his second to top the Billboard Hot 100. It's just the type of run-of-the-mill radio fodder that whores who think they've been cheated out of love because they take cash for pussy eat up. So good for you, Bruno, for being intuitive enough to tap into that market!

Elsewhere, while Justin Timberlake's "Mirrors" drops one position to #12 (I'm over it), his third solo album The 20/20 Experience is #1 for a third week, bringing its grand total to 1.43 million sold so far.

Meanwhile, Icona Pop and Charli XCX crack the Top 20 with "I Love It" (it's up to #17), the song that topped Chart Rigger's 10 Best Pop Singles Of 2012 list in December. Olly Murs' "Troublemaker" drops from its peak position of #29 to #32, and Swede-dance-pop outfit Krewella inch up to #40 with "Alive."



On a final note, UK X Factor winners Little Mix land their first entry on the US singles chart with "Wings," which goes in at #98 (ironically the same week that fellow UK X Factor contestants One Direction tumble to #99 with "One Way Or Another").



The TMS-produced "Wings" was Little Mix's second #1 single in the UK in 2012, following "Cannonball."

US Chart Roundup: Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Return To #1, Justin Timberlake's Huge Debut

After being interrupted by the five-week reign of Baauer's senses-dulling "Harlem Shake" on the Hot 100, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis return to #1 with "Thrift Shop." Both songs manage to keep Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" at bay, as that song moves up one position to #3. Elsewhere on the Hot 100, JT's "Mirrors" jumps from #25 to #13.

The real chart news, though, is over on the Billboard 200, where Timberlake's third album The 20/20 Experience debuts at #1 with first-week sales of 968,000 copies. It's his biggest opening week as a solo artist (FutureSex/LoveSounds sold 684,000 out of the gate in 2006 while Justified opened with 439,000 in 2002).

Of course, let's not forget that JT's former sausage fest boy band *NSYNC saw No Strings Attached debut at #1 in 2000 after selling 2.42 million copies in the first week.

On the Billboard Hot 100, "Harlem Shake" is #1 for a stupefying fifth week, "Suit & Tie" is back up to #4, the position it debuted at two months ago, and "Just Give Me A Reason" (#8) is now Pink's 14th Top 10 hit. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera has somehow used Pitbull like a Trojan horse to wriggle her way back to the upper tier of the chart.

Still, the more interesting trash is happening a bit lower. Justin Timberlake's second single off the just-released The 20/20 Experience, "Mirrors," has leaped 52 positions to #25. Over on iTunes, "Suit & Tie" is #1 while "Mirrors" is at #5. Kids, pull your fingers out of your mom and let's get those positions reversed?

That brings us to Icona Pop and Charli XCX's "I Love It," the song that topped Chart Rigger's 10 Best Pop Singles Of 2012 list. This week it cracks the Top 40 after moving up to #35. I'll admit, I cooled off on "I Love It" awhile ago, but it is nice to hear it on the radio in between the 746th play of "Just Give Me A Reason" and the 983rd play of "I Knew You Were Trouble" each day.

What we really need to talk about is the fact that Christina Aguilera a.) has a Top 20 hit, and 4.) it's by featuring on Pitbull's shitty "Feel This Moment." That trash is up to #13, and every time I hear that a-ha "Take On Me" riff it interpolates on the radio, I think, great job there furthering the country as a force in modern culture, Xtina.

Plus, I love how Christina is now basically only having hits by featuring on other people's songs. She's basically the new Kelly Rowland. In fact, maybe she should feature on a Kelly Rowland single, so Kelly can actually land a hit.
